Open Water Rescue Training The Memorial Fire Company participated in an Open Water Rescue Course held by the Lewes Fire Department. The curriculum consisted for four (4) evenings of instructional activities, one (1) day of outside instructional assignments, and one (1) evening of outside instructional assignments. Twenty-one (21) persons participated in the course and fulfilled the curriculum objectives which included: water rescue procedures, knots, navigational chart reading, navigation, search patterns, and towing operations. Students rotated through evolutions as rescuer and individuals in distress. This multi-department collaboration has further enhanced the working relationship between departments. Lewes (82) and Memorial (89) are regularly dispatched simultaneously on water rescues incidents due to the nature of the call. Students also had the opportunity to operate the boats and become acclimated with the instrument panels and navigational systems under various circumstances.
